Coming clean
29 May 2008
Topics: Clean rooms
In June, BSI will be hosting a conference on "Cleanrooms and Contamination Control for Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals: Update on Standards, Regulation and Best Practice".
For pharmaceuticals and the health and medical industries, a cleanroom is essential equipment. These are enclosed spaces where the air quality is managed to reduce dust, microbes, and other airborne contaminants to minimal levels. This enables these industries to manufacture or handle items such as medical devices and microelectronic products, both of which require high levels of contamination control and classification of even the smallest particle or airborne molecular contaminant.
Attendees will be brought up to date on the changes in key standards and regulations. In particular the conference includes the latest on the forthcoming changes to the BS EN ISO 14644 series (Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments) and BS EN ISO 14698 series on biocontamination control, and the impact of the revision of Annex 1 of the EU GMP.

Question: What impact do you think BCM could have on business insurance in the future?
It is essential that any business suffering a disaster is able to continue as near normal trading in the shortest possible time period to survive. To achieve this, an organization should implement a comprehensive well-tested business continuity plan (BCP) as a first step. Insurance should be viewed as an extension to the BCP process, not an alternative.
